Being Four

Now that she is four Joanna can do many things.

She can clean the burner covers from the stove.

She can mop the floor with the Swifter.

She can amuse herself by squirting mommy's feet with the Swifter.

She can even help make dinner.

I think I'm starting to like four!

Put Through the Mill

Last week I got a call from Accountemps for a short term temp job. Initially it was supposed to be one day. One really long day. Friday from 6:30AM - 9:30PM! I figured I could handle that for one day so I agreed.

They called again on Thursday and asked if I could go in that afternoon. I could so I was off to Riverdale Mills to help with their inventory. I did some research on the web and found out they manufactured products with wire mesh. I imaged counting a lot of wire.

When I arrived I found the company was in an actual old mill building build in the 1850's. It even had the mill pond. From what I read the building had been abandoned for 3 years when the company purchased it in 1978. They did a really great job restoring all the wood in the building.

When I went in they had a nice display of some of their finished product.

I worked 4 hours on Thursday and they told us to come in at 7:00am the next day. I wasn't actually counting anything but entering the product information and the inventory count into Excel. The day wasn't quite as long as originally expected. We were all pretty tired so they suggested we leave at 8:00 and asked if we could come back the next day. There were 3 of us from Accountemps and we all agreed to come back. Though it was a long day the company provided us with plenty of free sodas and they brought in pizza for lunch. We were also entertained by Patrick, the office dog.

Patrick's owner brings him to work with her. He was very well behaved. A fine office companion.

I arrived for work at 6:30am on Saturday a was treated to a beautiful sunrise over the mill pond. It was a shame that all I had was the cell phone camera.

We finally finished all the data entry and data checking at 7:30pm. I can't tell you how many part numbers I checked, but I can say I entered over 2000 lines of data into Excel. It was quite a job! Fortunately there were nice people and a beautiful building so it wasn't all bad.
