The Great Binky Fiasco

Well, we tried. Joanna was ready to give up the binky. She said she wanted to tie it to balloons and send it to the "binky fairy".

It was a warm sunny day. We went and got 6 bright yellow balloons, Joanna's choice, and headed to the park. One of the balloons popped in the van but we figured 5 would do. When we reached the park a storm was blowing in and just as we parked the car the heavens opened and the rain came down.

We waited a few minutes to see if the rain would blow out as quickly as it came in. Joanna fell asleep. So, back to the house with the sleeping child, the balloons and the binky.

Mom and Dad: 0 Binky: 1

By 5:00 the weather had cleared and we woke up Joanna for another try. It was very nice at the park.

Rick tied the balloons to the binky.

Joanna took one last suck then prepared to send the binky off to the binky fairy.

Just then a sudden wind came up and the knot that was holding the binky came loose.

Back to the car we went. Binky in hand, no balloons, and Joanna crying "I want my balloons!" "I want my yellow balloons!"

Fortunately we were headed to the YMCA for "Parent's Night Out" and the excitement of arriving there for a night of pizza, ice cream and playing with other kids helped her forget about the balloons.

Final score:

Mom and Dad: 0 Binky: 2

Joanna says she will keep the binky another week. <sigh>
